Well week 1 already has me off to a flying start and 89.74km completed. My body is still adjusting to the sudden return to regular exercise - but nothing it can't handle :) It has been perfect Autumn weather in Albury to be out and about and I am really enjoying the challenge so far, although I am already missing daylight savings and trying to kid myself that Winter is still a long way off.
So here is a brief wrap up of this week's training. Don't forget you can follow me on Strava to see exactly what I am up to.
Monday - April 1st - Easter Monday - 5km Run
What a gorgeous day for a run!! A short 5km run with my husband before we had breakfast on our deck at home. It has been a while since I have dragged myself out of bed to go for a run - but the clear blue sky and 10 degrees made it worthwhile (as did the eggs and mushrooms on toast afterwards).
Tuesday - April 2nd - Personal Training
Tuesday mornings are my usual Personal Training sessions with Angus. It's a great way to start the day and get a work out in before work. In the coming weeks I will be adding a ride session in the afternoon as well to ensure that I can squeeze enough kilometres in to each week.
Wednesday - April 3rd - 17.5km Bike trainer
After a long day at work and other family commitments - tonight was a bike session in the comfort and safety of my deck. Armed with a great play list and dinner in the oven, I set about knocking over 17kms in 35 minutes on my bike on the stationery trainer. It can be a little boring - but short stints and a great play list make a big difference. It's likely that I will be completing quite a few bike sessions this way over Winter.
Thursday - April 4th - 2.24km Treadmill run + Personal Training
Thursday afternoons are my regular training session with Angus. My daughter joins me during this session as well. Angus does well to keep us focused and on task - given the silliness that can sometimes ensue with an exuberant teen and mum combination :)
Before my session today I had intended to complete a 5km treadmill run - however running late as usual I only managed 2.24km. I also must work out my fitness watch so that it measures my indoor running AND remember to turn it off after the treadmill run. Today's Strava entry shows my heart rate for my treadmill run, PT session and my drive home!!
Friday - April 5th - 30.3km Bike ride
Friday afternoon while everyone else was at the pub - Nicky and I went for a 30.3km ride out towards Barnawatha. It was my first time on that route, although it is very popular with local riders. We got sprayed in gravel by an inconsiderate truck driver and yelled at by a car full of people thinking they were being funny. Other than that it was a nice way to end the week and sad that it is likely to be one of the last after work rides til Spring as daylight savings ends this weekend.
Saturday - April 6th - Rest
Originally I had a run planned for today - however poor communication and a change of plans made this more difficult than it needed to be - so I decided that Sunday would be renamed 'Super Sunday' and I would run and ride then instead - and Saturday would be a rest day for the week.
'Super Sunday' - April 7th - 6.3km Run + 28.2km Bike ride
Day light savings ended last night - so we got a bit of a sleep in. Another gorgeous Autumn day and a lovely morning for a run in my new running gear!! Nothing like new running gear to make a run a bit more fun :-) The day started with a 6km run with Byron followed by a quick coffee before heading off to a 1st & 3rd birthday party (and yes - I ate cake!).
Early afternoon I headed off for my first solo road ride. I have ridden a handful of road rides and had ridden part of this route before with friends, so I knew I would be fairly safe. I'm still a bit nervous riding on the road but the route I took is pretty quiet. It's a 100km zone most of the way, but a fairly narrow country road. I think I only had 7 cars overtake me the entire ride, and a few more coming the other way, including a tractor :-)
Perfect weather and not too much burning off so the ride was smoke free. The return trip I haven't done before and was a gradual incline most of the way back - nothing huge but just enough to keep me working the whole way. It wasn't as scary as I thought so next week I should be brave enough to tackle the 'usual' 45km loop instead!!

Lessons learned for the week
- In order to complete the number of km's I need to each week I need to be organised and have a plan - plus a few contingencies in case plan A and B (or even C) don't work out.
