It's been quite a while since I have updated my blog, but that doesn't mean I have forgotten about my pledge.
Eleven months ago I pledged to complete 3755km in training and events and raise $10k for CARE Australia's East Timor projects. Orginally I planned to have this completed in eight months and 380.3km in events. Things haven't quite turned out that way. For starters I ended up completing 488.5km in events and I have adjusted the finish date to the 31st of March 2014, which is 12 months from when I started.
When I set my original goal I used the SMART method i.e. setting Specific Measurable Attainable Realsitic and Timely goals. Now in theory this goal ticked all of these boxes, however I hadn't taken into account all of the nuances life has over a 8-12 month period and the 'fatigue' of setting such a long term goal.
I love being active, being fit and training for events, but after my second half marathon and after my first 100km ride I started to 'dread' training and just churning out the kilometres. I'd see my bike or my runners sitting in the corner and started to avoid getting out there and doing the very thing Ioved. I continued to train, a little more sporadically at times, and completed another half marathon and 100km ride after my mojo began to wane.
During the past eleven months, NEVER have I considered giving up on this challenge. I hoped that my 'mojo' and my passion for exercise and training would return, and I'm happy to say it has. Over the past few months I have kept plodding away at racking up the kilometres and I am now on the homeward stretch. I have set myself some new goals for 2014, including becoming a certified personal trainer - as well as a 'few' events.
I'm really happy to be back on track and passionate about my training - doing it because I love it - not because I need to hit a certain number of kilometres.
March 31st will be 12 months from my original start date and will mark the end of my year long challenge. With less than one month left and less than 700km to go, I am still a way off my $10k goal, but hope to crack at least the $5k mark.
I will live up to my promise to you and complete the full 3755km.
Here's to the final 29 days! It's been a rewarding and amazing journey so far :-)
